To the editor: In the July issue, De Cock and colleagues (1) described the courses of patients who had acquired delta hepatitis infection primarily through intravenous drug abuse or homosexual activity. I write to report an unusual outbreak of coinfection by both hepatitis B virus and hepatitis delta virus among a group of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Ninety children with newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia who were referred for care to the National Cancer Institute between March 1971 and May 1980 were studied. A 20% prevalence of hepatitis B virus infection has been reported previously in this group of
