To the editor: Inouye and Sox (1) conclude that "This study confirms a role for standard (conventional) tomography in the evaluation of chest neoplasms. On the basis of its lower cost, standard tomography is recommended for the evaluation of regional spread of non-small-cell lung cancer in the subgroups of patients with low pretest probability of mediastinal metastases, high pretest probability of mediastinal metastases, or low pretest probability of ipsilateral hilar metastases . . . The recommendations derived from this study are based on extensive review and detailed analysis of the literature."
We find it inconceivable that these conclusions could be
