The opening one third of the text covers bacterial physiology and general immunology. Most of the rest is a systematic survey of the families and genera of medically important bacteria and of medically important viruses, fungi, and parasites. Clinical aspects are touched on but this text will be mainly useful as a reference for physicians with strong interests in infectious diseases.
