An authoritative account of how the entire American health care system of doctors, hospitals, health plans, and government programs has been shaped by economic, political, and social forces since the pre-Revolution years. Although this book was irritating and even offensive to some physicians with orthodox views of themselves and their profession when it appeared, its perspective from outside the profession is one of its most valuable qualities.
