To the editor: Figure 1 in Hollander and associates' (1) report on increased intestinal permeability in patients with Crohn disease clearly presents the data and the statistically significant difference of the means. However, their observations show that there may be more than one population and that only subsets of the two groups had higher than control values. The high elevations in three persons with Crohn disease group and approximately half of the relatives are large enough to weight the entire group and give the calculated significant differences. Perhaps the statements should have been qualified in that only some of the
