Clinical decision making is a science in search of a home. Despite impressive achievements in applying explicit, quantitative approaches to clinical medicine, there has been little dissemination of this technique into daily practice. The author suggests a home for this sophisticated methodology in the identification and defense of cost-effective, quality health care.
As the title implies, this is neither a comprehensive book on decision science nor a primer. It is organized around the core areas of the application of information theory to clinical decision making, clinical prediction rules, cost effectiveness analysis, and clinical research.
