The need for a comprehensive review of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) for a wide readership has been effectively addressed in this book, which is one of the first to present the medical and social aspects of AIDS. Medical information is explained in a basic, understandable fashion. Extensive references are provided for readers interested in more scientific detail. Discussions of the basics of the clinical spectrum and research aspects of AIDS are well organized and thorough.
About half of the book deals with psychological, social, and ethical issues, with an effort to discuss both sides of the issues. The final
