To the editor: In recent years, several cases of the nephrotic syndrome with minimal change disease or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis have been successfully treated with cyclosporine (1). One of the most serious side effects of this drug is nephrotoxicity; although the first descriptions mainly focused on chronic nephropathy, a reversible acute renal effect has been reported (2). However, the frequent presence in transplant recipients of other renal injuries makes recognition of these episodes of acute renal failure difficult.
A 40-year-old man received cyclosporine because of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis with nephrotic syndrome resistant to steroid treatment. He had been given furosemide
