To the editor: Socinski and Garnick ( 1 ) recently reported two cases of acute pancreatitis in patients who had received combination chemotherapy for germ cell tumors. They state that pancreatitis has been recorded secondary to malignant infiltration from small cell lung cancer, but do not mention this complication in relation to germ cell tumors. Instead, they ascribe the pancreatitis to the chemotherapy.
We have recently reported a series of six patients with gastrointestinal metastases from germ cell tumors of the testis (2). One patient developed pancreatitis before chemotherapy. This 23-year-old man had severe abdominal pain, upper lumbar pain, and
