To the Editor: Improvement of several hematologic disorders after viral hepatitis has been reported. In two studies the duration of remission and survival were superior for patients with acute nonlymphocytic leukemia who developed hepatitis when compared with those without hepatitis (1, 2). Two patients with the myelodysplastic syndrome had improved erythrocyte production and lost their chronic transfusion requirement when they developed non-A, non-B hepatitis (3). Complete peripheral blood remission has been reported in patients with hairy cell leukemia after hepatitis (4, 5).
