To the Editor: The nature of the physician-patient relationship reflects the evolving technical and social environments in which medicine is practiced. Just as persons who wish to influence the direction of technology and society are locked in continuous debate, so too are the parties who wish to influence the nature of the doctor-patient relationship. In one sense, the controversy centers on whether the relationship should be interpreted as contractual or as one of tort.
