To the editor: I am writing in response to the editorial by Dr. Lie (1) on myocarditis and endomyocardial biopsy. The major thrust of Dr. Lie's arguments about the lack of specificity in the diagnosis of myocarditis by endomyocardial biopsy is correct but only in a historical sense, and the references that he has cited document the state of confusion from 1980 to 1985. It was precisely for these reasons that some concerned cardiac pathologists have more recently endeavored to correct the situation with the "Dallas criteria" (2). The Dallas criteria were developed for use in the Multicenter Myocarditis Trial
