Four distinguished medical scientists with long research and teaching careers covering aspects of nutrition and metabolism have edited and written several sections of this book. The first section covers energy metabolism and regulation, a brief review of the essential nutrients and the measurements of body compartments, and the effects of disease on those compartments.
