Burgeoning knowledge and interest in disorders that lie in the "borderland between neurology and psychiatry" led to the second edition of this solid and well-referenced text, which was first published in 1981 under the title Organic Brain Syndromes. The authors want their term "neurobehavioral" to be synonymous with the old organic brain syndrome diagnosis. However, in discussing their selection of terminology, they state that the new psychiatric diagnosis organic mental syndrome is a "much more logical term" than organic brain syndrome.
