To the Editor: We were pleased with the ACP position paper concerning adolescent health care (1) because it provided a formal agenda for improving the medical care of adolescents. We believe that three areas targeted for improvement should be emphasized: developmental assessment, medical ethics, and health maintenance in adolescent care.
Assessment of the biological and psychological development and maturation of adolescent patients is a necessity for diagnosis and treatment.
