The concept behind this publication is an interesting one: A conference (held in February 1987) was designed specifically to produce the book. It should therefore differ from the usual conference proceedings: That is, the book should meet a higher editorial standard. How well does it meet such a standard?
The book is well organized. In the introductory section, one is led through the complexities of genome organization, Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance, and those words and tools that are essential to an understanding of molecular genetics.
