Meditel, as described in the operator's manual, is the result of an ". . . enormous undertaking, was successfully completed in 1987, and . . . is the product of a two-decade Odyssey in computer-assisted diagnosis." Initially developed at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in the 1960s on mainframe technology, this program falls far short of its claim as an office-based tool with a list of 1160 differential diagnoses.
