The authors' objectives were "to create a clinical guide, as well as a reference volume, for both internists/cardiologists and obstetricians/perinatologists." They have attained these objectives admirably. In this second edition the two major sections maternal and fetal are maintained. However, they have been integrated so that the welfare of both mother and fetus is emphasized. Information on the emerging field of "fetal cardiology" is detailed, with emphasis on intrauterine diagnosis (primarily with echocardiography) and treatment (especially of supraventricular arrhythmias which have resulted in heart failure).
