To the Editors: The article by Eddy (1) affirming that a Pap smear once every 3 years can reduce a woman's risk for dying from cervical cancer by 90% was extremely interesting. Many of us who have had this or similar types of cancer and are living today can attest to this fact. However, many women do not get this procedure done because they have to pay for it. Pap smears are not covered by most medical insurance. This is regrettable, because the procedure is not expensive and it can save so many lives.
