To the Editors: I read with great interest the recent article on access to health care (1). I want to set the record straight about some of the cost figures presented in the article. The authors state that during the period from 1970 to 1987, "... the cost of government, public health activities (including spending by the Public Health Service, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs) increased by a factor of 10.5" (1).
