The complementary examinations of the peripheral blood smear, bone marrow aspiration smear, and trephine biopsy form the basis for the diagnosis of many hematologic diseases. The authors have focused this monograph on the histopathology of marrow trephine biopsy sections in those disorders in which this type of biopsy is particularly useful.
Eleven chapters discuss the normal state, hypoplastic and hyperplastic conditions, stromal reactions, myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukemias, chronic myeloproliferative disorders, lymphoproliferations, disorders of the mononuclear phagocyte system, metastases, and disorders of bone. Each chapter ends with a list of up-to-date references.
