This new edition of a classic textbook (which has reached its fiftieth anniversary) presents substantially revised content. More attention is given to toxicologic principles. The section on autonomic pharmacology includes some new chapters. Some recently introduced and some investigational drugs, such as erythropoietin, zidovudine, tissue plasminogen activator (alteplase), are covered. Goodman and Gilman will not serve as a sole source for therapeutic decisions; however, it retains the clinical orientation that has made it a valuable reference work for clinicians. It also provides medical students with a clear introduction to the knowledge of pharmacology that is needed for the intelligent use
