The electrocardiogram is a frequently done and useful laboratory test. Computer interpretation of the electrocardiogram, however, has not yet reached a degree of reliability to obviate the need for over-reading by a trained physician. These considerations underscore the need for teaching electrocardiography and for good books on the subject.
Hurst's book admirably fills this need. Hurst is a master teacher of cardiology and an outstanding clinical cardiologist who has written an excellent book with clear text, simple illustrations, rigorous arguments, and the kind of intellectual honesty that marks the experienced teacher who has mastered his or her subject.
