Although most of this history will be attractive only to historians of medicine in its part of the world, some sections illuminate experiences with wider interest, notably the experience with tuberculosis in the "transportation" fleets that peopled white Australia and the consequences of the collision of the aborigine with the European. The transition from rest, pneumothorax, and other preantimicrobial therapies to today is described in detail for the three regions.
