Half of the chapters examine the biochemistry and pathophysiology of fever and methodologic topics such as questions of precision and accuracy of clinical temperature measurement. Remaining chapters discuss specific clinical problems with fever in particular groups and syndromes: fever patterns in various types of disease, fever of unknown origin, the immunosuppressed host, infants and children, elderly patients, postoperative and drug-induced fevers, heatstroke. Two chapters cover antipyretics and fever effects on drug handling (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics).
