To the Editors: A woman aboard an Alaskan cruise ship had photophobia and intense pain in the right eye while viewing a glacial ice field in bright sunlight. The right pupil was markedly dilated in both sunlight and shade, whereas the left pupil exhibited normal constriction in sunlight. The woman was wearing soft contact lenses. None of the eyedrops or solutions she used contained mydriatic agents. She was noted to be wearing a scopolamine patch behind the right ear to ward off seasickness; the patch had been in place for 4 days. The patch and the contact lenses were removed.
