Imaging methods have become enormously important in medical diagnosis. This important role is particularly apparent in cardiovascular medicine and surgery, as evidenced, in part, by a recent proliferation of new texts on methods of cardiac imaging. These texts vary in purpose and intended audience, ranging from atlases to detailed explorations of a specific imaging modality to works that attempt to cover broadly the several imaging approaches currently and potentially of use in cardiac diagnosis.
