This issue marks the marriage of 2 publications with large and loyal readerships—Annals of Internal Medicine and ACP Journal Club. Beginning today, ACP Journal Club will appear within the second monthly issue of Annals rather than as a separate, 6-times-per-year publication.
Like any good marriage, the members of this couple will retain their own unique identities. Loyal readers of ACP Journal Club will be pleased to know that its leadership remains in the hands of Brian Haynes and his team of contributing editors, who will continue to use the selection processes and summary formats that have made ACP Journal Club a trusted source for busy clinicians interested in keeping abreast of the medical literature for 16 years. ACP Journal Club editorials will continue, beginning with the inaugural editorial by Dr. Haynes in this issue. Annals will continue to provide the same amount of traditional journal content that it always had—we added 16 new pages to accommodate the ACP Journal Club material.
This arrangement will benefit readers of both publications. First, the ACP Journal Club summaries will now be available to readers once a month, which is sooner relative to the publication of the source articles than with the original every-other-month publication schedule. Second, busy clinicians who previously read only 1 or the other publication will now have easy access to both without needing to reach for a second journal. Third, co-publication will facilitate links between topically related material in the 2 publications.
