Annals Consult Guys-Measuring Lipids: To Fast or Not to Fast
Great discussion. Our patients will be much happier about not fasting. I am a bit confused after listening to Dr. Weitz' statements 11 min into the video. "there should be a national move toward the nonfasting lipid panel. Be aware that triglycerides will affect a calculated LDL, but many labs are doing direct LDL measurement. The effect of triglycerides on calculated LDL really only occurs when triglycerides are 400 mg/dl or higher. We think we should move toward the fasting test." Did Dr. Weitz really mean to say nonfasting test at the end of this quote?
